Castlerock Golf Club
Founded at the beginning of the 20th century Castlerock Golf Club like so many others began its life as a 9-hole golf course. It was extended to an 18-hole layout in 1909 which was officially opened on July 15th. Castlerock Golf Club is now home to 27 holes of golf. The 18-hole championship course known as the Mussenden course and the 9-hole course called the Bann course. Located just outside the town of Coleraine in Co. Derry, Northern Ireland Castlerock Golf Club keeps good company with the likes of Portstewart Golf Club only a 20-minute drive away while the host of The Open Championship, Royal Portrush, only a further 10-minute drive making Castlerock a prime location. Castlerock more than holds its own in such highly regarded and celebrated company. The entire course is a joy to play but there are a few highlights that are worth singling out. The 4th hole is arguably the courses best known. Called "Leg 0' Mutton" the par-3 measures 200 yards from the back tees and is played to a raised green. To the right-hand side is the railway line that runs the full length of the hole and if that wasn't enough of a hazard there is a burn that runs diagonally across the hole from right to left. The par-4 10th and par-5 17th are also course highlights and were voted into the best 100 holes in Ireland by Irish Golfer Magazine back in 2016.

The greens out there were as good as if not better than the ones we played on at the Open at Royal Lytham.

This course is pure heaven.

What a fun day for my son and I. It's a challenging but fun links course, and with some beautiful views. The course was in great condition and especially good greens. It had a really fun nice mix of holes. Nice folks, and thanks for a great day.

Castlerock is the "hidden gem" with some holes in the dunes and some inland more reminiscent of the Scottish links with their more muted mounds. Either way, I loved the course and its 9-hole Bann Course is among the more intriguing and audacious in the game, beautifully situated closest to the sea in the rugged dunes.
