Portsalon Golf Club
Located on the Fanad Peninsula in Co. Donegal Portsalon is a real mix of coastline links holes with some more inland style holes on the back 9. The signature hole is the par-4 2nd. A long sharp right to left dogleg this hole requires a gutsy tee shot to leave anything but a long iron or wood into the green. The tee shot is massively elevated and the hole is so designed that the golfer must shave off some of the dog-leg and hit over the beach. It's as intimidating a tee shot as I've ever played but at the same time, it's great fun. The ball seems to be in the air for an age before dropping out of the sky, the elevation of the tee box is so great that when the ball begins to get closer to fairway level it is hard to know if you've managed to give it enough to carry the beach and sea while at the same time not overcooked it and flown the dunes beyond the fairway on the other side. Even if you do manage to hit the fairway the 2nd shot ain't no picnic either. It's just a great golf hole.

I am delighted to see the progress on the Links at Portsalon. Set along the scenic and beautiful Donegal coastline, it is simply a great place to play golf.

Now retreat into the safe havens of the bar or restaurant to look back out at what is now undoubtedly one of the world's finest links and the devilish demands placed on one's golfing prowess...
