Royal County Down Golf Club

Voted the No. 1 golf course on the island of Ireland in 2017 and consistently in the top 5 of the Golf Digest top 100 golf courses in Ireland each and every year and if you ever get to play it you will see why. Considered by many to be one of the toughest golf courses around it is a golf course that will punish poorly placed shots and there are some areas where a golfer must avoid if they want any hope of finding their ball. There are numerous blind tee shots, blind second shots and in some cases blind third shots. Royal County Down has it all, short holes, long holes, drivable holes and everything in between. For me, the par-3 4th hole is arguably the finest work of Old Tom Morris anywhere in the world. A long par-3 with an elevated tee box that looks down onto a narrow green that sits some 200 yards away and invariably plays into the wind. All the while knowing that if you don't hit the putting surface you face a very tricky chip shot. It doesn't get much better.

Royal County Down is my all-time favourite.

This is among my favorite places to play in Northern Ireland, one of the truly great links courses. The more you play it, the more you recognise it for the class place it is.
