Royal Portrush Golf Club

After the very successful staging of 148th Open Championship in 2019 the reputation and demand for golf at Royal Portrush (Dunluce Course) skyrocketed to unprecedented levels. With sweeping dunes on both sides on numerous holes, it is as visually spectacular as it is enjoyable. The par 3 14th is one of the most famous holes in the world. Measuring in at over 200 yards from the championship tees and with the shot invariably being into the wind I have played this hole with a driver in my hands on more than one occasion. On the flip side of that, I have hit as little as a 9 iron from the tips too so that might give you an idea of how big a part the wind can play. Many of the greats of the game have graced the turf at Royal Portrush over the years with the most notables including Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, and Tom Watson.

It speaks volumes about how far the country has come. It’s going to be a very special thing for Northern Ireland and Ireland in general. I just hope I’m exempt and playing well.
