Portmarnock Golf Club

The most famous course in the area is without a doubt Portmarnock Golf Club, founded in 1894 and designed by William Pickeman. Portmarnock was voted the 49th best golf course in the world according to golf.com's top 100 courses in 2017/2018 and with Portmarnock only being a short drive from Dublin airport it really is as convenient as it is beautiful. Some of the games all-time greats have graced this hallowed turf, from Sam Snead to Tom Watson and Seve Ballesteros in between and if it's good enough for them then it's probably good enough for you. Tom Watson once commented on the course "There are no tricks or nasty surprises, only an honest, albeit searching test of shot-making skills." Tom Watson regularly visited Ireland in preparation for The Open Championship and Portmarnock was always one of the stops on the list.

Sam Snead and I played in the Canada Cup at Portmarnock in 1961 and I recall saying to Sam on the way home that every aspect of our games was examined that week.

Arnold Palmer

One of the most enjoyable links courses I have had an opportunity to play.

Tiger Woods

There are no tricks or nasty surprises, only an honest, albeit searching test of shot-making skills.
